What is a Credit Union?

Unlike most other financial institutions, a credit union is owned and operated by the people it serves. Every credit union is formed in the same way. A group of people combining their monies together to better their financial future. Pooling their monies as savings in turn making low cost loans to one another.

They identify themselves in terms of membership whether it be employment, religion, geographic area, some other decisive factor or a combination of them – and make it voluntary membership, available to everyone within the definition. The credit union is owned by its members. The members elect a Board of Directors to manage their Credit Union.

One Member, One Vote. Every Credit Union operates democratically. In most cases, each member has an equal voice, regardless of the size of his or her account balance or any other factor. This “one member, one vote” practice prevents excessive influence from being concentrated in the hands of a few, and helps ensure that the credit union operates in the best interest of everyone.

Why Join A Credit Union? A Credit Union is different from other financial institutions such as banks, thrifts, and savings and loans because as stated previously, it’s owned by the members. Earnings are returned to you in the form of higher dividends and lower interest rates (rather than to corporate stockholders as banks do). The big difference you’ll notice about joining Our Credit Union is that you’re treated as much more than just a customer. You’re respected as a member and a co-owner no matter what your age or financial position. You’ll find high quality products and services, personal attention, and a caring attitude. We know you by name and we will treat you with the respect that you are entitled to. We know you have a choice and we thank you for putting your trust in us.

Our goal is to give you the best financial services possible. We want all of our members and their families to “Experience the Credit Union Difference”.
